I think it looks nice...but am also questioning how long it would last or how much upkeep goes with it. It looks like some type of portland cement mixture, which itself isn't a bad thing...people are making more and more concrete countertops.

Obviously not as durable as granite countertops, but as a patch, maybe.

Is there code for that application? Same as installing a laminate top, code calls for real laminate, not a utility top. Permeability and cleaning are also part of it, I think.

I saw the same show!

My girlfriend was watching it.........looked neat. Not sure how it would hold up.

I did some work for a client a few years ago. They moved into a house that was built in 3 different centuries.....you don't really need to know this it was just a very cool house to work in......anyway the current kitchen took up the whole original cabin that was built in the 1840's. The kitchen came with a laminate counter top that had been coated with a cement product. They didn't like the colour so I did a faux granite paint finish on it. My clients have been in the house for over 3 years and the counter top had been done a few years before that. I looked at the underside and could see the particle board and would say that that the cement coating was a good 1/2 inch thick...at least where it wrapped around the edges it was. There were no visible cracks and to my knowledge it's still in great shape. I don't know if the same product was used as you're asking about but after looking at the site I think it could be or something similar.

If I was going to do it I would want to make sure that the existing top was re-enforced if there was the slightest give anywhere.

Cheers
Mary
