OMG.... Thats hack rates. You'll fit right in on CL.

I apologize, really you need to recheck your pricing for REAL tile installers.

Shoot even HD charges $13.43 a sq. ft. in Columbia area.

The Bamberg job is a bit cheaper but thats only because I have less OH that close to home.

I assume you collected the money for the initial job. Now that you have discoverd new problem you make a new deal. I have little experience in this field as i am a finish guy. That is where sharing is important, you should goto the mansonay forum and ask that question. Sadly though I don't think other contractors think the way i do, that is that sharing info is a good thing.

Call the supply store ask what one section of liner costs, should be easy to give a price for the materials that way, then give the guy the price of 1 days work. for me that is 350

Michael,
Sarcasim is a little tricky in print, my point was to ask a question that you could not possibly answer. Nice try, but I think I will stick to my own estimating thank you. The reason we flame "how much" questions is this is a professional site, not DIY.

The fact that I think your daily $350 is too cheap should be of no concern to you, you know your costs and profit objectives. If I can't determine my pricing I do not belong on this site, let alone in business.

You will notice if you stick around long enough that members with a lot of posts under their belt get some slack when asking how much. Usually the actual pricing information is shared via PM.

Perhaps you normally open your books and profit margins to your customers, most on this site would not agree. The newbie hazing also helps determine how the guy handles a little crap, which helps determine if he has thoughts of value.

Stick around, contribute and learn and you will see that this place is pretty good at sharing general info. Specific pricing info is going to be of little value.

Re: Sharing Information

Fine-ly, (hmmm? )

The point is:

Wth does it matter what you, I, or the pope, charges for whatever?

I..have X overhead…and am slow as shiiite…with a happy gal and 3 dogs

You…have Z overhead…and are fast as shiiite…with an unhappy wife (just for kicks), who spends a lot…and ya got 7 rotties and 4 hamsters….

The pope…has some overhead, but it’s not due ‘til death…

How much do we each charge?

$3/sq ft?
What about removing old adhesive on a slab?
What about addressing any cracks in a slab?
What about removing base trim?
What about cutting door jambs?
What about tiling under appliances?
What about remove/install toilets?
Does that price include grouting?
What about natural stone?
Does $3 include all patterns?
Do you offer upgrades?

I don't even want to get into $3.5 over wood

Just out of curiosity Mr. Painterman, What method could I count on you using to install my 300 sq ft Kitchen tile?

Materials and structure will be as follows.

3/4" 5 ply subfloor over 2"x8" joist 16" OC.
Tile will be 18"x18" Travertine.

Give me your total layout and materials list so I can justify giving you $5.00 per sq ft.

I've never seen a straight answer from anyone on this site when you reply

To the guy that recently asked for help estimating an interior paint job of two rooms with an approx total of 6oo sq/ft: $2.25 per square foot is a rule of thumb for new construction painting.
$3.50 is the prevailing rate around here. (97756)
