I offer help all the time if I can but pricing questions turn me off. It just says I don't know what I am doing imo. I mean transfering your production rates into your price is not that hard.
Now if you just started and you can't grasp that then I think you should keep being the employee untill you get a grasp on your rates.

I do remember 1000+ posts ago though when I first joined this forum and thought hey what's the big deal? Let me help you figure out how much you should charge, now every day a new start up business wants to know how to charge, well it gets old and I choose to not respond to those threads.

If you want to tell everyone how much to charge I say go for it. you will have some active threads.

Ok, moving on....

Michael, I am so glad that you have volunteered to help everyone out with pricing. I think we get about an average of 3 posts a day here & I am sure that number will go up now that you volunteered. You might want to take a look into a few federal rules regarding price fixing, restraint of trade, just to name a few that apply.

Good luck in your new career
For those regulations to have criminal implicatons there has to be criminal intent! Read the whole book.

I neither seek or offer advice. I offer observances and knowledge within my scope.

I simply seek association with some of the best craftsmen in the world. I think the guys and gals here are just that!

If I gleen further knowledge by that association then thats just icing on the cake.

No bosses i know share their info with employees. That really is risky there, I admit. So that's why this forum is good, you dont have to share but it is not going to hurt me to share what i can with others. thanks for the non harsh comment.

No one is going to jump you for sharing your info...but it will have absolutely nothing to do with what someone else should be charging...it won't....really

I hate to break it to you, but the price being "pretty much the same" is not the world telling you this is the price, it's you telling the world, this is your price.

I was not talking about the boss sharing i was talking about the basics of knowing your own production time.

LOL, sure what should my tile install rate be?

Now I need that for 2 different areas that I will be starting soon. First area is Columbia, S.C. (Richland County) & Kline, S.C. (Allendale county.)

Both installs will be on the same basic layout and application.

What? Seriously is that right? Where did you find this "rule of thumb"? I will pay you $2.35/sf to come here and you can start tomorrow.

Let me check that and see how close I come for Shytown and 1 coat interior latex.

OHHHHHHHH..... My pricing for that area just for single roll on new construction is a bit higher than what you are offering. This doesn't include extras like sanding, wet clean, priming, double coat, or trim.
