Sanding Between Coats

Just wondering what everyone does as far as sanding between coats for semigloss?

I would always sand in between coats but is it really nessesary? Some people say no but some say yes, doing a large area could use alot time to sand between.

Right now im using BM semi on Exterior and for windows i sand between
But for ceilings and trim and others, is it overkill waste of timeor doesnt matter?

To much to ask,
Robert

On trim, I sand the trim first, then dust it, then paint it, I don't sand between coats.

Re: Sanding Between Coats

On trim I sand first then sand again before second coating. I never sand a ceiling. On walls I will sand the original finish and the between coats.I always use a 5 inch orbital palm sander to do this. This does two things for me,knocks down the surface evenly and puts me up close and personal with the wall. That way I can easily see any defects in the wall .This method my take a little longer but the results are great...not to mention the HO wont believe his eyes when they see you palm sanding the walls.

Re: Sanding Between Coats

On higher end work all walls should be sanded between coats, whether primer or finish coats to remove pimples small roller splatter, etc. The method I use is a sanding pole or sanding head attached to an extension pole, using 100 or 120 grit paper...

Yup, I've been pole sanding a long dang time.....I need to get one of those drywall doo-hickeys with the round head that doesn't skip, flip over, and tear up the wall, or just come unscrewed while you're working with it.....

Don't think I've done semi- on a ceiling...
Interior trim I sand in between coats
Usually not on exterior, but that can depend...

Depends on the texture here... almost everything is either hardcoat or orange peel in Tally, so no walls but yes on trim. Always after prime when removing paper.
