rusty metal pitched roof

Anybody have experience with 'Rustnox' (sp)for rust on roofs?

Local paint dealer claims you can use it as an effective rust blocker first coat then topcoat finish. $22 gal (~400sq ft) and dries silver which is what is wanted.

An option I guess is to use 'Reformer' that says it will convert rust back to its iron/steel makeup. Though cost runs about $65 gal (~300sq ft) and dries black.

One problem is that the boxed gutters are caving and there is no real lower access if needed. A roof hook clamped on the ladder is out. So I'm figuring 50' articulating boom. At rental prices of ~$270/day plus pickup/delivery, insurance. When all is said it is over $300 day just for access. So sanding or wire brushing isn't much of an alternative.

Which is why the emphasis on the material.

Viewed from the ground, there is a near complete rust layer and it is second story (with one side obstructed at ground level by the 1st story porch.) 45 degree pitch. roughly 500 sq ft surface area

Anyway, if anyone has experience with these paints would like to hear.
Do they really seal/convert rust and not allow for bleed thru?

We did a rusty metal roof 3 years ago. We did zero prep, no washing, no sanding, no wire brushing, no nothing. Just 2 brushed on coats of Diamond Vogels V-cote 200 acrylic latex maintenance primer/finish. It looks as good today as it did the day we finished. Here are before and after pics.

Diamond Vogel is a regional paint company based in Orange City, IA. They also make the Old Masters line of wood finishes. Unless you live in the midwest, you're prabably out of luck with finding it, but I'm sure other companys have rust inhibiting latex primer/finishes.

The guy on the roof is my brother and he's positioning a ladder.
