Rust Problem
Hey guys. We are painting the steel beams on an RV port that was previously painted about a year ago. The primer used was SW chem-kromik (which is an industrial marine primer) and was topcoated with an acrylic latex paint.
The problem our client is having is that rust spots are now bleeding through the topcoat. We have looked into using a rust neutralizer, but that can't be applied over the existing paint. We have found two products that sound like they might work, but I have never heard of them and hate to spend so much on an expensive product that might not be all they claim to be. Those two products are called The Rust Doctor and Rust Bullet. Anyone ever have any experience with either of those products? Our SW rep said to use the chem-kromik again by applying 3 additional coats and then topcoating with DTM 2 coats. I have my reservations about that simply because it didn't do the job the first time. That is an extremely difficult product to work with (like painting with glue) and if it doesn't work the labor wasted would be outrageous. I can't seem to get ahold of the industrial/marine division of SW to get their recommendations so I figured I'd tap the knowledge of you guys. Any ideas? |
