Runs!!!!
I just got done spraying trim out in a new construction house. I got a new sprayer and wasn't real used to what pressure setting. I've sprayed out lots of houses with no issues. However, when i got done with my bases for about two rooms I looked back and they were running like mad! I tried to take some floetrol paint mix and brush them out but it was too late. I don't know if i wasn't moving quickly enough or if i had too much floetrol. Do you think the paint will be cured enough by tomorrow to sand them out. The rest of the house turned out great. Doors, casings, windows look like glass. should i wait a few days or try and sand out tomorrow. HELP

Re: Runs!!!!
do you come and spray all finish coat after it is installed then? Thanks for advice. Any opinion on how long to wait till i try and sand it out. It is cold here. I am afraid it won't be ready to sand by tomorrow. I don't want it to gum up on me.

Re: Runs!!!!
I do not add anything to the paint either, used to put some japan drier in oil. It will take a couple days before the paint will be cured enough to sand without it gumming up.

Re: Runs!!!!
They are some pretty big runs. What grit should i start with? I hate having to let it sit for three days. It is going to drive me nuts thinking about it.

Re: Runs!!!!
yeah, except the homeowner has more time to see it now!!! I actually will probably start painting walls tomorrow. I will mask the bases off with paper. At least then i don't have to look at it until I can fix it!!!!!

Re: Runs!!!!Quote:
When I worked new construction for my family we always did it this way. We would caulk all wood that was up, prime, sand and spray two coats. Then we would sand walls, cut and roll two coats. Base, crown and loose trim would be primed, sanded and finished once. When crown was installed we would putty, caulk and brush one more coat on it. We always caulked and puttied base when it was installed, but would only brush finish it on bump out because you know how bad carpet scrapes on the base as well as carpet kicking to get it in place to be stretched. This is kind of a generic explanation, but if you would like a detailed explanation on how we did things let me know. We also rolled daylight walls solid on bump only. |

Re: Runs!!!!
well depending on how big they are i would start with 80 or 100 grit then switch to 150 then finish it off with some 220. If you sand to soon it will gum up.

Re: Runs!!!!
Just my opinion, but I would have not let the runs or sags dry. Better to take a broad knife and rag and wipe them clean. then feather sand if needed.
Ive never seen a nasty run or sag sand out well enough to make them disappear. I did not notice in your post previous, but did the final coats run or was it in the prime coat? Rule of thumb when spraying, multiple light coats for build is better than 1 heavy coat. Not to imply thats what happened. The other issue, floetrol is used when paint is drying too fast, not as a common additive to increase spread rates (which some painters do) but inhibiting drytime and making it workable, I agree with previous posts , not adding anything or cutting material. Good Luck Sanding........ Last edited by GPI; 02-25-2007 at 09:28 AM. |

Re: Runs!!!!
It was finish coat. i did try to wipe them off. However it made a huge mess. I know it is hard to get runs out. However, when wiping it off i felt like i was making a bigger mess.
