Roof Jacks

I have a customer who is very concerned about putting roof jacks on their roof using screws (cedar shingled roof). How do i repair these holes after I remove the roof jacks? Also, what else could I possibly do to paint these peaks without using roof jacks? Thanks.

There may be better alternatives
Could you describe, or better yet post up some pics, of the project and the surrounding area?

How about a roof ladder - A single ladder with large hooks on one end for hooking over the peak. Slick is right, with pics it would be easier to give you better advice.

You could always tie a rope around your neck.

Seriously though, I've used ropes and harnesses for roofing many times. Just don't tie off, on the other side, to the truck and send a maggot out for nails.

how about renting a lift. Makes life so much easier, and you'll feel safer the whole time you're up there. Obviously more expensive, but with the increased productivity its not so bad.

Is this from experience or just advice. You know what they say, All warnings come from someone doing that at one point in time.

Ha ha...that's experience, but we all know Bob wasn't the one hanging
Bob's maggot was hanging when Bob decided to get some smokes

Hanging then draging baby. Did ya know it cost more gas to stop and go. Besides, I was only going a few blocks.

if all fails...rent a lift and charge the home owner for that as materials to complete the job most places are resonable on rent and drop ioffs and the lift is very osha freindly if wearing your harnes and makes the work snappy fast

Yup, I'm a big advocate of renting a lift. I just sent one back today....40' 4x4 lift from Sunbelt. I rented it for Saturday, got to keep it Sunday free (because they're closed), then got to keep it free monday (inventory day for them, no pickup), and got to use it a little extra today until about 3:00 before they picked it up. Cost $252/day $75 each way pick up and drop off...I payed total $450 or so for the one day I actually rented it for, Saturday. Try to get it for the weekend like I did, it will save you some money. You have to call in Monday morning and get a release number, but if you say something like "I need my release number, but I don't mind it sitting here for an extra day if you can't get to picking it up"....often times you'll find those guys are cool about it and will let you keep it an extra day.

My favorite Rent-All place won't pick them up on Saturdays....so If I call after 2:30 on Friday for pick-up, they say they'll do it Monday, but I only get charged for one day
