Removing Stain


Refurbished deck was treated with a oil based transparent stain / sealer, Customer hates it, need to remove stain and put on a opaque stain, Any suggestions as to best method to remove new transparent stain well enough that the new opaque stain will adhere?? I am thinking deck wash pressure wash. alot

I have removed semi-transparent stain from decks that were still repelling water. go to Sherwin-Williams and get their Deck Stripper. it comes in a plastic container and you reduce it with water. Read the directions!!! it works good.

apply it with a garden sprayer, use a scrub brush on a pole and pressure wash it. it may take 2 applications depending on how well it was sealed the first time.

the deck stripper material will cause skin irritation. my hands peeled a bit but nothing serious. you might want to wear rain gear and gloves...i had to wash wood that was above my head so it really sucked having that crap drip on me.

Good Luck.......its not a fun project.

Be very cautious applying an opaque [solid] stain to a deck, candidate for peel, strip cycle.
