Re: References

I know this is the painting section, but I force feed my reference list by having a recent 75 jobs list with names, addresses, town, shingle style and color in both, my pre-appointment package and included in my presentation package.

Plus, in the presentation package, their is a longer spread-sheet with over 2,000 references all categorized by town and alphabettically by street name with all of the other particulars too.

Unless I bring it to their attention, they may not consider asking the other contractors for theirs either, so why leave it to chance and a simple minded selection process.

Re: References

Does anyone list as a reference a job that didn't go so well - for whatever reason: customer was slow/no pay; contractor damaged items, etc?

Re: References

I had only one this year, usually do not get many. I am at 90% referrals from current jobs this year so most people are friends or family of current customers.

All tho that can be a blessing and maybe not sometimes.

All our customers info are confidential. We sell our projects, not our previous customers.
May give you something to think about.
Because we have a long report with Service Magic, we have a long list of satisfied customers, with no names attached to ratings theyve given.
Another thing to consider.

Re: References

Very few people ever ask for them and most people do not call them. If they ask for them or call them I failed to earn their trust. <--If they call them I get the job!

Re: References

about 1/2 ask for references, out of that less then 10% actually follow up on them. I call and check with previous customers/contractors if I may use them as a reference and follow up down the road and most times no one has ever called them

Funny you should mention this, I generally tell the people on the DIY sites to ask for references for jobs that did not go that well. This allows a client the opportunity to see how well a business overcomes material or labor issues.

Re: References

I prefer to keep my customers private and therefore no references. I let the pictures and my sales presentation doing the talking
