Quoting off a floor Plan

Well tonight is not going smoothly for me with quoting that is for sure!
I have a floor plan that is not to scale, I know that the room is 434 sq ft, with 13 foot ceilings, how do I figure out the surface area of the walls for calculating paint?
My thought is:

434 / 12 = 36
where 12 is a guess of the wall length.
then I would have 2 walls at 12x13 and two at 13x36 giving me 1,152 square feet of area to paint. Does this sound right? does anyone know a better way?

It would be linear footage of all the walls times 13. Then add sq. footage of ceiling...which is approximately 434 sq. ft....unless it's vaulted...then it's a little more....475 is probably close enough in that case.

We are doing walls only, the ceiling is dropped, and I don't know the length of the walls, which is the problem... just the sq. footage...

Didn't you say you had a floor plan?....Is it the pencil and napkin kind? Can you walk the job with a tape or a measuing wheel and jot down a few numbers?

How bout this?...instead of bidding by sq. footage, estimate how long the job will take and use an hourly rate....Add in overhead and profit.

If all you know is the SF of the floor then yes you are figuring it about the only way you can. 434 / 12 = 36.17. So assume the room is 12 X 36 roughly. So two walls at 12' and two walls at 36' is 96'. Multiply that by 13' height for 1248SF of wall space. You may want to figure high though since you don't know exact measurements.

I was assuming that there were probably additional interior walls. If it's just a box with a 434 sq. ft. area, how hard can it be?

Thanks Gideond, I was rounding up, but since the floor plans are not to scale, I can only guess-timate. Which is fine, I have compared by hourly cost with my approximate square foot and they are close.
Thanks!
