Quick Question..new Construction

When doing new construction I usually sand all the walls by hand before I prime.... but lately have sent a prep team in to get it ready for me... I give these guys all palm sanders so that I know they will do it right.

Now my question, with palm sanders there is more dust than usual..
would you wipe the walls down before spraying?

Now before you answer... I'll tell you that I never have wiped the walls down before spraying priming.... and they have always looked o.k.

Just curious to what everyone else does... (cheap spec house)

Re: Quick Question..new Construction

have you seen those microfiber rags? they are about $5 a piece but are washable (100 times)...take a swifter (the large ones) and put a one of those rags on it and just wipedown the walls...it's really wuick..once there is too much dust in the rag just shake it off and throw it in the washing machine at the end of the day...I have 10-20 rags and just rotate them...dont get anything but the large swifter mop...the small works too but takes too long...i doo new cosntructions mostly and this always works real easy for all the dust form the carpenters...plaster I don't wipe unless it's a hgih end house (plus the carpenters come in after I prime the walls so there is nobady to reate dust really); drywall you have to wipe all the time...there is just toomuch dust from sanding it

Why would you sand the walls before priming? Did the drywall/taper not sand down his joints?

Not wiping the walls down before spraying makes the wall rougher. This will require more muscle when sanding before top coat.
I find for cheap cookie cutter houses rolling out the walls and ceilings works best. No masking, less material, less clean up etc. I then pole sand the walls with some 100# and top coat with your builder spec flat.

Plaster's never check there work.... they leave the place like sh*t
if they wanted a good job, they would hold a light up to the wall and see their mistakes.
