Does the Guru fish?
Mrs. GURU is a nature lover (hunt, fish, commune). I would be content sitting in a hot tub, absorbing the majestic peaks as I contemplate the benifits of industrial enamel vs. alkyde DTM, and sip my Grey Goose & Tonic (with a lime ... of course). But then, a walk through the forest of potential paint grade trim would be fun too. I tend to lean toward 5 Star, she is a little more camp fire and accoustic guitar.

A trip to "GURU Granny's" in Greeley and down to Cripple creek for some Texas Hold-em' is on the list. I'de love to sit her down with a bucket of $$$ and let her fight with the one arm bandit while I loose track of my card count because I'm distracted by the lead based paint pealing from the soffit outside.

I love the mountain passes around the San Juan Skyway as much as the Wall of Tears in Maui. For her, a pik-nik in the mountains, and a walk on the beach is ideal. I'm a thrill seeker and adrenelin junky and she would be happy panning for gold. I wouldn't mind checking out that mural of Ken's (MDO or HDO?).

I'd have to say ... Cabin.

As far as fishing ... I would need to rent poles. She would like that.

Panning for gold, maybe a little rafting, and hot tub (The Paint Guru's Think Tank).

**Thinking about September's snorkling ... Bramuda or Carib? hmmm?

made me chuckle...

How many trips have you made to CO?

I've actually only been to Cripple Creek once to gamble, but only because BlackHawk/Central city is less than 45 minutes from my house, Cripple Creek is more like 3 hours.

Unlike Kenscar, I've never lived in the mountains here, except for a year in Salida in the 70's, and 5 weeks (working) in Granby last year. He can probably help you out more far as the gold, hot tubs and (especially) the rafting.

My Texas hold-em experience has mostly been on-line while it was still at least "kinda legal", and I got spanked regularly.

I was however a VIP at the Isle of Capri casino in Blackhawk for about a year. That meant free rooms w/hottubs, free meals, and translates roughly to "complete nobody" in Vegas. Where (like I mentioned earlier in this thread) I'm planning our 5th trip to this Summer.

I'll go camping right after Vegas, I love that "culture shock", but my wife don't camp very well...so she'll skip that part of our vacation.

Re: Questions For The Paint GURU?

Oh yeah - I went with MDO. HDO was just a little too pricey and I figure, if I put a good weatherproof shell over the thing MDO will do just fine. Got the main 10'X16' plane built and primed in my garage today. It's going to be quite the job. Painting the image is the fun and easy part - it's figuring out how to make it a free-standing structure unto itself that won't blow over in the Rocky Mtn. winds. I tried to upload an image of the finished graphic but the file was too large for this forum. I'll try again some other time . . .

Re: Questions For The Paint GURU?

Just booked it. March was Maui ... July in the mountains ... NICE! The back door is on the river. The hot tub is right next to the river ... staring at Longs Peak. Maybe the Mrs. can try fishing from the hot tub while I contemplate how many linear feet of paint-grade base is growing on that mountain.

Ha! Yeah, might as well pre-prime it all while you're there. Which airless would you use for a job like that - the Huey or the Boeing?

Re: Questions For The Paint GURU?

"Hi, my name is Gina and I work for a leading water based resin manufacturer. We develop resins for use in decorative paints. I am looking for painters who could give an hour or so of time (at your leisure) to brush out 5 paints and comment of application properties. Your feedback goes into developing new products for paint manufacturers - before the products come to you. Here's a chance to influence future products with your input! We're interested in hearing your views on what is needed to make better trim paints and improve water based paints in general! If you are interested, please post a response. As a token of appreciation, you will also receive a nice digital camera for your effort in this project! Thanks, and hope to hear from some of you soon!!"

I got the 5 sample paints. I am testing them. Thanks, Gina.

Questions for the paint GURU?-010.jpg

The importance of this test relates to the base board splash behind the toilet in every bathroom. Home owners with bad aim can kill the gloss level, and deteriorate the paint coating on that peice of base. Sample numbers 2 and 5 held up well, but 1, 3, and 4 had less than desirable results.

Re: Questions For The Paint GURU?

Hm. This will be the third time I've posted this picture. Seems the GURU is on so many threads it's hard to keep track of what I was talking to him about and where. Anyway - this is that MDO mural, GURU. I still have to finish the last two people - the prissy girl not paying attention and the guide falling off the back of the boat. Then, I'm going to add a shore line in the background. Then, cut the whole thing out and seal all the edges with clear silicone. Then clear coat the face with Golden MSA acrylic varnish (with UV protection).

All of the faces will be cut out and hinged so they can be opened and clients can put their own mugs through the holes and take pics.

This is the stuff I really want to do full time - but painting houses is the bread and butter for the time being. Thus I am here on this forum.

Thanks again for all your great advice. I'll post another pic when this monstrosity is finished and installed.

Peace out, bee-yatches.

Au contraire, mon frier ...

You can find sharks in Englewood, Colorado ... even dive with them.

If you are a certified diver, you can experience the afternoon adventure of a lifetime in the Sunken Shipwreck exhibit. You'll swim with Sand Tiger sharks, Brown sharks, Zebra sharks and Barracudas.

Nice shark Ken!

This makes me warry. I want to do what I know and follow my old process. It could take too long, but I don't want to use a product that will leave tracks and/or will peel off later.
