Questions about Accuspray VersaMax unit

I inherited an Accuspray Versamax Pot-Sprayer from a friend who recently retired.

The last time his guys used it, they did not clean it out.
I have already replaced the 25' paint hose since it was entirely clogged.
I have broken down the gun completely and currently soaking the parts in kerosene. The gun is not too bad.

After cleaning up the compressor unit (which appears to be an oil-free type), I plugged it in and let it build a little pressure. Then I opened the drain valve on the tanks to check for moisture.

I did not get any water (it had been sitting for some time), but about a 1/8 ounce of black-oily smudge came out. Does that mean that some seals are gone in the pump? or ???

It did build and hold pressure quite well, and I hate to scrap it after spending $100 on a new hose. Any comments?

I haven't heard of accuspray in about 5 yrs, we had a few of them and to tell you the truth you should just use it to hold your drop cloth down. You will be waisting more time pulling your hair out than applying any coatings. We just ended up useing them as a trade for a discount on speeflo.
