Question About Power Rollers

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if buying a power roller for interior painting would be a good idea? I am use to using the old fashioned roller and roller pan, but wanted to try and speed things up so I can move on to the next job. I am wondering if the power rollers are good or not, and also if they are, what is a better brand to buy? Please leave any feedback on them, good or bad. Thanks guys

Re: Question About Power Rollers

Don't like them...Don't use them.. I consider them homeowner tools.... if you want to speed up... start spraying... or work out of a five gallon / with a drop in grate for less cleanup. There's also larger and wider rollers if the walls can lrg or many.

Re: Question About Power Rollers

Some like em, some don't. If you want to try one, at least get the professional model that hooks up to a spray rig, not the goofy ones from Home Despot. Those type are definitely for the DIY'ers.

And for a low-buck way to speed up, get rid of the roller pan, and use a 5 with a screen. I only use roller pans/trays for detail work, like doors, cabinets, spindles, with a 4" or 6" mohair/whizz roller, or brush work. Never for walls or ceilings. I used to have a guy who could roll like the wind, and I'd pt him up against anyone with a power roller all day long.

Re: Question About Power Rollers

Heh, you should see me roll. I get a kick out of seeing how fast I can whip out a house. I always use a 5 with a roller grid for the 9" roller and 6" whizzie. I just looked at the numbers for a recent job. It took me 9 minutes to roll out a 752 sq. ft. area. I remember because I had a helper on that job watch me roll out the kitchen/dining/lr area and it only took me 9 minutes. I used this to explain to him why just a bedroom shouldn't take him 20 mins to roll. That's an avg of about 83 sq. ft. per min.......SHHHHH!

Never said I used them. I know of those who have used them and like them for particular applications.

Re: Question About Power Rollers

We love'em for new construction when all walls are going the same color. Spray and back roll primer and ceilings and power roll the walls. Definately get the sprayer attachment, not the H.D. "Power Roller". We also use it for popcorn ceilings where we can't spray to avoid over rolling and loosening the texture.

You're absolutely right. It doesn't always work out that fast, but when I want to make a point........
