Primer Question?

Heres the deal, the ceilings are a slick finish and I have already primed them. The drywall guys came back to point up the ceilings and I had to reprime some spots so I just primed the whole ceilings again. The spots that were touched up by the drywall guys stuck out like a sore thumb even after repriming. We are using Behr paint and primers because that is what they want. What would you guys do or use to make sure these spots get covered up by the primer. Appreciate any help.

For whatever reason I got suckered into using Behr on a job, I would probably go out and pick up some decent primer on my own ticket to cover those spots, just to get the job done. Brush a coat of Gardz over them.

BTW, what does "point up" mean?

I hear "point up" frequently around here. Usually they're talking about a final bump...

behr....as said above....

I like to use on new drywall/taping jobs Devoe Paint - Primz....excellent hide and little or no splatter. I'm sure there are plenty others around so get comfortable with one that works for you.

1. Behr sucks
2. Don't let the customer spec the paint
3. See #1

Really, I know Behr gets slammed from pro painters all the time, but it's not just a rumour or internet legend or whatever
It truly is crap
I've used the paint
I've used the stain

My sister, who I love dearly, called me up after buying her first home, and said "We are so happy... We're going to paint....We got some Behr paint"
I said "Throw it down the sink"..."Really"..."I mean it"

A few days later she called me to come over to help
On the way over I told my wife "If she has Behr paint there, and expects me to use it, I really, really, hope she has some dog s*** in her yard that I can eat to prove my love for her, because I am not spreading that Behr paint"

I am not kidding

Fortunately, she had some Ben Moore

I refuse work most of the time when the customer wants me to use (inferior paints)to save a dime.It is alwatys a nightmare!PLUS that kind of customer most of thwe time ends up wanting a beverly hills job at a ghetto price.I say just like someone else said go spend some cash out of your pocket to ensure a job well done and buy REAL primer out of your pocket and eat the loss and chalk it up to a lesson well learned.

point up - around here it refers to the sheetrock guys doing their final touchups after the first color coat is applied.

You have a profile difference now. You may never get the differences from not being visible.

Behr isn't bad paint, it just isn't made for the pro's. It is a DO-IT- YOURSELF product that works well for people who don't know better. I use to battle Behr (as a Glidden/Ralph Lauren rep) in Depot. There is only one brand worse than Behr in Home Depot, that is Glidden. At Kelly-Moore when I went out on job complaints it was almost always a prep problem or painter error. With Glidden it was often product failure. I saw some real problems. They lack quality control bad.

Rather than type a long list of negatives, I'll ask this:

Have you ever used Behr compared to a higher quality paint like BM or SW?

....ummm...yeah...the list is pretty long
There's not much good about it

Really I have tried to use it-I'm not repeating something I "heard" on the Internet as gospel
It is so bad it doesn't save any costs, it adds to it

It is made to:
a) be cheaper than quality paint but give HD a higher margin (like their de-spec'd tools)
and b) address homeowner DIY concerns
Here's just two:
"Does the wet paint in the can look like the chip?"
"Does it dry really fast?"

Well does the wet paint need to look like the dry?
No, that's dumb
Any painter knows to slap some on and dry it to see what it looks like
But the H/O that opens the can and sees the color is two shades off-He/She's gonna run back to HD and demand a refund
Does the paint need to dry really fast?
No that's dumb
Any painter knows it's HOW it dries

In addressing these and other H/O concerns, does that make the Behr a better paint?
No...it affects it adversely
Add to that the HD way of de-spec-ing and charging just a little less, and you have a Behrly functional product
