Prime caulking before painting?

Have lurked here for over a year with this being my first post. I appreciate the wealth of the great information which has helped me through some rather difficult projects.

With that, in most cases, I use SW 950 caulk and have always primed it before painting both interior and exterior. My compadre says I'm prolly wasting my time. What does everyone else think? Am I burning hours or do you believe the priming to be necessary?

Thanks in advance,
Karl

If you don't prime the wood
before you caulk, then you've
got a problem.
