Prime Before Texturing...just Do It

we've hit on this subject before--

I'm working on removing a textured ceiling today...95% was fine, the remaining 5% **where the walls meet the ceiling, where the bulk of the mud/tape is** is creating so much friggin extra work--as I'm spraying and scraping the texture is so embedded in the mud, that I'm pulling up tape and digging holes and all sorts of extra prep crap...basically I'm here to say this..........

prime friggin ceilings before you apply texture...as much as we all have discussed that texture typically gets sprayed right over bare rock, what about the hassle of taking it down?

1 simple and cheap prime coat would be helping me so much right now

ok, so I was venting a bit yesterday....but do you see why it would help? It's the same exact theory as sizing for wallpaper

Amen to that...most people are removing texture (and wallpaper) anyway

....at least up here, they're both coming off like crazy....and what would you know? I love removing both for some reason...I guess it's because it's a change of pace and that I know how good I'll eventually make it look

I'm glad you see my point though...

Nope... popcorn really wasn't popular until the late 70's... if it's a home that was built before that.... may want to check it but.. shouldn't be an issue.

EDIT : meaning, asbestos shouldn't be an issue for any paint post say.... 40's.

Quote from the PQI:

"The application of sprayed-on asbestos-containing coatings was banned in 1978, but a lot of popcorn ceilings installed as late as 1986 contain asbestos in the mixture."
