Pricing Stain Work

I have a question for those much more experienced in this field than myself. I recently had a job where I had to stain both sides of a 1x12 and shellac the top side. It turned out to be a good amount of work and matching the stain itself was fun.

In addition to the 1x12 we also had to stain some chair rail trim.
I should also mention that we applied two coats of stain, sanded 3 times, and also two coats of shellac.

What is the going rate these days for staining?

That was almost like a service charge type of thing. How many trips?

Re: Pricing Stain Work

I only made one trip to the jobsite and I pre stained the pieces at my warehouse. I can tell you that it took me and one employee a full day to stain everything. I was going to price it off of my time into it, but also just wanted to know what the going rate was. I think it was around $3 a lf a few years ago.

Still about the same, ranges from 2.85 to 3.65 around here.
