One thing I dont think has been mentioned yet...is the room empty or full of stuff? If it's empty, I'd charge $650 plus materials and tell the customer it will be done before noon. If I'm moving a bed/dresser/desk/relocating stacks of junk/etc., I'd add at least $100 to the labor charge.
Yo River...
BTW I'm right across the Hudson from you...

Dude... Please...
You gotta charge more than that to move dusty nasty crappy junk...
and WHO moves it back? Is that in your contract?

(I know you do the hi-rise apt bldgs, I just did one in Jersey City -- Newport -- this "weekend" but just wondering if you have any clause in your contract about moving KRAP...)

Re: Pricing Question

Thanks for the replies, just working on figuring out the whole estimating thing , going to be starting up a company in the spring and need to get this all figured out before then. But there is alot of posts on this sort of thing in here. Glad i found this site. I'm thinking a hourly rate say $30.00hr plus $5hr for overhead then adding paint and supplies may be the way to go....At the end of the day I think I would be happy taking home $25-30hr well before the tax man that is .

Thanks Again

Joe

Re: Pricing Question

If you are going to wait until spring to start up your company, then you should go take a business class (or four) at the local college?

If you are talking a one-man band deal, and want to earn $25-30 an hour working (or "billable hours"), I have found that to earn $25 an hour as a tech, I need to "charge" around $47.50 an hour minimum
Not including anything else, materials, transport, etc...

Re: Pricing Question

i just love that painters are willing to work for $25/hr billable and are being heckled by GC's in this thread. That's classic

What is the $22.50 if it's not including anything else?

Re: Pricing Question

it's taking into account that you will be lucky to bill 6 hrs for an 8 hr payday.

I agree with slick and bman. tools ,transportation, money for the business then your pay check, time at the store, what about cleaning tarps. If I were only looking at 25.00 hr for my self at the end of it all,you may as well go work for some one else and let them get all the head aches. Less your living in an area where 25.00 is huge money. Around here if you are a good painter or carpenter you can hit 20.00 working for the man ,go home at night and forget about the job. Just hope your boss tosses and turns enough at night to keep you in the pay checks on Friday.

Re: Pricing Question

Price Lean if you have to have it. Price normal if you think there is potential for referrals. Price higher if its only a one time gig.

Re: Pricing Question

I guess alot of it depends on being competitive too. In MI we charge between $30-$40hr per person working, plus material.
Also take into account if this customer is going to give good referals and more work in the future. If I think a job will lead to more work I will bid to get the job. If it is going to be a dead end job I will take it if I like the pay.
