prices for painting
I am in ny just curious what most painters get for a basic job- i just got a job to paint 3 bedrooms and a hallway they are leaving the trim alone. pretty much just prime and paint. Im getting 2500$ for the job. Is this about average? I am in carpentry and building and dont really just do basic painting unless it is in my estimate for a remodel or new build.
Thanks

its good if you can do the work in about 56 man hours. that leaves you $575.00 for all your materials with a markup included. I dont know the materials you specified or the size of the rooms so its hard to say if its a good price or not. plus i dont know what you pay your guys and if you have insurance, an office, warehouse, how many people work in your office, number of vehicles, etc.
if the rooms are 12 x 12 then its a real good price for you.

Holly C*rap for that size job I charge $450.00 a room with paint and caulk and spackling, that also is painting ceilings white and then color on walls, I think I should move to New York You guys are making a killing on painting for that amount, that means I would average around $195.00 an hour(that job should take about 3 days at the most ). hell I will come and help you if you want, I could afford to drive there from Michigan do the work for you and still drive all the way back and still have a pocket full of money

It would be cheaper for me to just drive there work and then come back home. I hear the cost to live in New York is ungodly high. so that is more then likely why they are getting some much for painting a room.

Typically, the cost of living in NY, namely Rent and the like, decreases as you radiate out in all directions from Manhattan. Manhattan is TRULY becoming an Ultra Elitist Address!!!
Pack of Cigarettes........ $10.00. REALLY! (Mid-Town Manhattan.)
Now compare your price for Cigarettes to your price for painting and NYC's prices.
It is what it is here, but I could not fathom living in any other Geographic Area in the Continental US of A!

I also figure the cost of living had something to do with the high prices paid.
Cig $10? People had Mac Donalds make 20 per hour?
Sounds like if you make under 75,000, you are on gov assistance.

I am probably guilty of not charging enough on most of my contracts.
I need to carry more confidence and lose the fear of losing a contract when I bid jobs.
That is my New Years resolution for 2009.

Don't wait
Start now - recalculate your OH, look at it carefully --- Cut your discretionary OH that really isn't needed, see if there are better options available for your fixed OH (buy instead of lease - diffrent Insurance company, better insurance coverage), increase your profit % & put it all in Writing - make it a goal not a resolution
Why wait? It's your money your losing
Just my .02

I have trouble speculating a "fudge" budget most times...you are far more business minded than I am.
So, what do you charge for business management?
