Pressure Washer Running Rough

My washer, Troy Bilt with a Honda gc 160 engine, is cutting out a lot and taking a long time starting up. I'm guessing the first thing to do is change the spark and the air filter. I just filled up the oil which helped it start but it's still crapping out. It's new gas in there too.

Anyone got any tips before I ship it off to the repair shop?

Thanks

Do the plug first. Look at it when you pull it, sometimes you will see a very small ball between the electrodes, get rid of it and things go back to good. Cheap gas is the usual cause.

New gas in it now, but how long did it sit with gas in it before the new gas was put in it? Gas will lleave a film if left in long enough. carp might need a soaking ot at least some cleaner ran through it. If it has a priming bulb, it may have a crack/hole in it making it hard to prime and start. Definitely drop the bowl and check for water droplets and gummy varnish-like deposits.

Take a ten millimeter wrench to the bolt in the middle of the bottom of the bowl.
Take the bowl compltetly off and clean it with carb cleaner (get carb cleaner at any auto parts store).

The most important step... stick the red tube that came with the can of carb cleaner into the center of the carb where the bolt that holds the bowl on goes...shoot carb cleaner up inside. (you just cleaned out the main jet).

Reassemble, start, clean stuff, make money...

Re: Pressure Washer Running Rough

Sorry for the delay in updating but I only got a chance to try your suggestions today. I changed the spark and bought some carb cleaner but as I was breaking down the air filter I noticed there is murky oil in the filter coming from I believe the crank case and depositing in the filter housing.
Any idea whats up now?
I believe this happened before to a previous employers washer and he said it was a broken seal?

Where is the fuel tank located? Above the engine and carb? If so, maybe needle valve is sticking or has trash under it letting fuel fill the crankcase and carb? Not been allowed to sit in rain? Look for the simple fixes first.

Re: Pressure Washer Running Rough

Murky oil is just from normal blow-by in the small engine. an excessive amount and exhaust smoking would be a strong sign of engine wear, but you're most likely ok. Use the mentioned carb cleaner and u probably be ok. r

Re: Pressure Washer Running Rough

Check any and all breather tubes and screens if any. Not sure about murky oil being normal. If I see any milky looking oil, it gets changed in my engines. Never did tell whether it has set out in the weather. I guess it is possible it got water in the air filter from being used.
