Prepping Six Panel Masonite Door

Bottom of the door edge has been roughed up - you know, when mdf gets damaged how it 'wicks out'?

Don't want take sandpaper to it because from my experience, that can cause it to flair out.

This door looks a custom fit -- are there any tricks out there?

Minwax make a wood hardener. It will harden the fibers and should allow you to sand it and paint it. I would test on a piece of scrap first though.
