Preping Concrete For Epoxy.....

Got the new Quickrete Epoxy, it suppose to be like the epoxy they sell at SW (shield-coat or something like that).

Anyways I used a degreaser, and now i just used the cleaner they had in the box (degreaser, etcher, and cleaner all in one).

But the concrete still seems pretty darn smooth, do you think I should acid etch again(is muratic acid the best)?

I thought I read from a post here that a smooth concrete surface should be etched more than once.

Also I heard the pros (i guess that would be you guys : ) use a diamond sander machine thing that leaves a rough/textured profile.

Can I rent those somewhere?

Just want to do this job right the first time.

here's a good link for you...I could try an explain in my own words, but this does it much better.

Also I saw how nice H&C epoxy looks. I was usin' that Home Depot stuff (which actually looked ok). But this stuff looks fantastic, saw it in the SW store yesterday.

Re: Preping Concrete For Epoxy.....

I've used SW ab products over great prep and had probs from ground moisture,
and used HD ab products over minimal prep w great results...
I think, now, ground water situation could lift any membrane.
Solution?
I prefer a single, porous coat to allow moisture through.
Do NOT like 1 thick heavy coat slathered on. it will blister.
...This has been in garage floors, where hot-tire pickup is also a factor.

After using many products for garage floors ... I will never use anything other than Devoe Coatings... the best.. in my opinion...
