Pre Prime Painting

I have some factory primed wainscoting to paint. The primer has a slick surface also like plastic. What is my prep for that substrate prior to painting? Can I just lightly sand then paint with analkyd? Thanks guys

Alkyd, are you sure that's "pre-primed wainscoting"?
It sounds like that fake stuff that comes in 4' x 6' sheets, is white, and is not meant to be painted
It really shouldn't be shiny, and I've seen no pre-primed wainscoting or beadboard that was

If that's what it is, they did you no favors by "pre-priming" it
It will have to be considered a "paneling"
I'd suggest a nice sanding followed by a solvent-based primer
Off-hand I'd suggest BIN shellac-based
It'll stick
