Power Rollers....
My boss got 2 new power rollers, and sent us out with HIS plan.
Me and another guy started cutting in for them, and they got the rig setup and started with these power rollers. They made a smart ass comment about we'd better not let them catch us......
We got 30+ rooms cut in by lunch, and just for giggles me and the guy with me got us a 5 gallon bucket and the ole grid.....after lunch we had rolled 10 rooms by the end of the day. WE checked on these fancy power rolles and they had done 15 all day!
So grid and bucket we could do 20 a day.....
and the power rollers got 15!
That's just plain bad!
Any opinions on the power rollers?

I got one for free with my sprayer. I have been scared to use it...I keep seeing in my head a hose blow out inside a homeowners house... paint squirting out all over causing a lot of damage. I will stick to a roller

I think the idea is great.....but it's not practical.
Have to deal with a pump.....fight lines......move pump.......fill pump
VS
Dip roller......roll........dip roller......roll.........fill bucket......dip roller.....roll
Although, I am sure they have their time and place. Just has to be optimal conditions.

I've used those rollers that fill up a tube and you squeeze a lever to pump paint through the roller.
In open areas they are faster. Worthless in a hall or closet. Clean up time will eat up all the time you save.

We've had a really interesting power roller pitched to us. While we don't do any rolling ourselves... we do recommend...
Has anyone tried these?

We have found a great app for these power rollers. 200' of hallway. 9' ceilings and about 200 feet long.........we did in an hour and a half. 2 guys each had a side. jmo.....but if I was dippin and rolling I don't think I could do half what we did in an hour. 200 foot......in an hour and a half? With jut outs, and rolling around door casings every 8 feet or so.
Any opinions?

Is this the pressure fed roller or the other type where it sprayed onto the wall then back rolled?

Pressure fed, shoots thru the nap. Not the one that sprays.

I can't even imagine using one of those in a home. They need to be used in big open areas like schools or office buildings. They put on a good heavy coat of paint in a short amount of time. It normally takes 1 man putting paint onto the walls with the power roller and 2 men laying it off behind him. When conditions are right power rollers are worth their weight in gold.
The ones I have used are the ones that hook up to an airless. The guys that did 15 rooms a day while 2 other guys did all of the cut in plus 20 rooms, the guys using the power roller must have not known how to use it.

Yeah the first time we tried these it was in foyers and closets......worked terrible.
But down these halls, they kick !
No way I'd ever use these in a house. Cause hoses bust and things happen.....could you imagine a hose busts in the hallway, starts flippin around.........shoots paint into a couple of rooms.......covers the hall......then you get to the rig just in time for the last bit of pressure gets paint in the kitchen!

After further experimentation with the power roller vs dip and roll I have the opinion that a bucket and grid kickes a power rollers
It took 1 hour 30 mins to roll a hall with the power roller....
It took 2 hours and 10 mins or so with the same 2 guys and a grid and bucket.
Thats 40 mins quicker.......then you factor in setup, gas for the sprayer, clean up, and general hassel of using a spray rig.........
Not evn close as far as I am concerned, the one doing the work.........Give me a grid and 5 gallon bucket all day!

Again, it depends on the situation. On a commercial job with 8 or 9 foot walls and big open spaces, I would put a power roller up to your bucket and grid anyday of the week. It is hard to make a blanket statement that one way is better or faster. It all depends on the situation.

I have both types the spraytech tube type and the titan spray/backroll type. dont use either one all that often but i much prefer the spray/backroll over the tube fill spraytech.

Well like I said with cleanup and setup, you might be a little faster with the power roller.......but nowhere near enough faster to justify it. We did 2 long WIDE OPEN halls both ways and was like I said not much faster.
