Portable Toilet

Ok guys I’m not joking with this. I have The Duck Dieses. What ever I eat I have to rush to a bathroom no matter the conditions of it I have to do it. For me I have to ask the customer for the bathroom. It is uncomfortable. I have been forcing to have a toilet on my van. So I came up with a 5 gal bucket and 30 gal trash bags. Works good but I’m a big guy and chicks get marked with the 5 gal bucket. I bought a portable toilet to be more comfortable but was too small and I had two spill accidents. Last week I went with my son to a camping store to buy some fishing lure and I can’t believe what I’m seeing. A bucket with a toilet seat! I didn’t hesitate to buy and neither to try it. Worked perfect. Now I have my emergency kit completed. My toilet, toilet paper and deodorant. By the way, I just noticed if you want nobody around your truck; don’t use the deodorant.

You could light a match or a candle also but the guys might think your doing a doober.

I noticed the guys around here don't like to talk about health issues. I was going to suggest a health sub-section but I think we'd probably run off a bunch of the squimish.

I wouldn't eat during the day then... but that's just me.

Have you been checked for IBS? They have meds for it - could stop some of your suffering!

Or is this actually a joke?

I have a rule too, no dumping in a customers toilets, unless of course they leave for the day. I have always used the old cup in the trailer trick for taking a leak but if I must roll a log I find a Mcdonalds.

Are you guys nuts?
Can you imagine couple of crews at a time looking for places to go,
or a bunch of painters behind bushes.
What about female painters (ours are).
Professionalism goes a bit further than using Sh. Williams or hating BEHR.
Put this in your contract:
"Customer also agrees to allow contractor's employees access to washroom facilities"
And if they have a problem with that, as I mentioned in an older post:

"No soup(paint) for them."

I worked with this one dude... It was one of those big jobs that a bunch of us come together and work on for a week, comparing skills, chatting, kinda fun and we get paid as well... anyhow, this one dude, had the nuts to rotate some old stock in the crapper, then peek his 6 foot 9 head out of the bathroom and ask the woman of the house if she had anymore toilet paper! I just about dropped my brush... well maybe I bounced it, but I caught it again so that doesn't count as an actual drop.

Look up http://www.sealandservices.com/index.htm Porta potties are common on small boats and campers.

Forget the chides and negative inputs, we all have problems from time to time.

Dad came up with the toilet seat-on-a-bucket back in the 50's. In the 90's somebody patented it, saw it at a boat show.

...coming from a man who has a somewhat sensitive stomach himself...here are a few tips

1-no fast food at all
2-drink a lot of water
3-eat more fruits and veggies throughout the day
4-no coffee or tea in the am
5-wait to eat anything until after 9am
6-drink lactaid milk
7-(during work hours) eat 1 meal
8-try eating that new yogurt.."activa"

Sorry about your problems-I used to be real bad, but now I do a combination of ALL these things I just listed. It sounds sooooooo extreme to some, but eating and drinking correctly will help your problem and help you live longer-good luck

Ps...see a doc

This is an example of a topic we could discuss in a private, painters only chat.

Private customers have to let painters use the facilities. Period. We aren't a bunch of animals.

On new construction you can use the portapotty or go where no one will see you. Fairly simple.

Problems come up on new construction, almost finished, portpotty is gone, fixtures installed but no water yet.

This thread should go hand-in-hand with the appearance thread. I've never had a problem with the customer letting us use their bathroom. Why? Because we look professional. Decently clean whites, company shirt, freshly shaved/showered, shirts tucked in/belt on, etc. We just look nice. The customer's probably don't feel we are a threat to their nice, clean powder room.

On the other hand, I've been on job sites for over 20 years, and over half of the characters I've seen I wouldn't let 10 feet from my crapper. Crabs anyone?

I tell the painters to feel free to take a leak, or drop off the kids at the pool, but if you know its going to be a nasty, pasty, draft-beer, stink up the whole hous, leave marks on the bowl, tip-out-of-the-water deal, go to the gas station up the road. Have a little repesct for Suzy Homeowner.
