Popcorn ceilings

Hi everyone, got 3 popcorn ceilings to paint and there full of nicotene, I know I will have to use some sort of oil primer to seal, my question is has anyone ever used a pump action garden sprayer to spray on the oil perhaps even thining it down a little, I think I seen Pro wall guy doing this with gardz on here.

Regards D/B

Using an airless to spray oil primer on popcorn ceilings is a big enough mess for me. You ever try to get kilz/Coverstain off your eyelashes and eyeballs?

Using a garden sprayer is gonna make it a true PITA job IMHO.

The only thing I would put an oil base through is a pump sprayer. One you can break down peice by peice. Never any of my good sprayers. I try to stay away from oil as much as possible unless I am using stain. I just hate the clean up.

If you can sway the decision, just scrape the stuff off. Popcorn is out anyway.

kilz

I painted the popcorn in a condo that was saturated with nicotine and tar. I used Oil based Kilz and a 3/4" nap roller. Just made sure to cover everything real well.Worked very well and it was painted white afterwards too..
