Pls Help.. Wood Filler Problem
I'm prepping an oak railing and runner. I've used a wax crayon type filler to fill the holes and have even used it to start to fill margins. it looks great sanded but it looks like, upon staining a smaller run, it's not going to accept the stain. Oops. Am I going to have to dig the wax out? Can I use one of those markers? ...Also, what am I supposed to be using as far as wood filler? Wood glue in the cracks and running sawdust into it as I'm sanding is what I'm doing for now. Working pretty well actually.
Thanks, as always, cindy |

Re: Pls Help.. Wood Filler Problem
You found the way on your own. If you have a lot to do, premix it in a small jar that can be sealed and store upside down. We save a large coffee can of sifted sawdust from every job just for this reason.

You found it on your own. FYI the colored crayons are for spoting nail holes or small dings after the stain has been applied

Re: Pls Help.. Wood Filler Problem
You can also try colored putty before staining, its available in small jars in many stain colors, and can be mixed with others to achieve a close match. If it seems to sticky you can work in a little easy sand 20 or 45 to make it easier to fill with!

Re: Pls Help.. Wood Filler Problem
Use the wood stock you used on the project.Use a sander to make sanding dust to the amount you think you will need to fill all holes. Buy some plastic wood filler (natural) mix the sanding dust with the naturel wood plastic until it looks as close as you can get it with the exsisting wood of your project. If the mix gets to thick add thinner to it until it becomes workable> Do tests like apply to a hole any where in a wood used on your project to fill dry and finish to check for the match.
