Pine Sealer ......

Hi ... what's the most benign sealer I can use over pine walls. The worry here is a toddler and I don't want any noxious fumes in my clients environment.

Thanks ........

Re: Pine Sealer ......

I like shellac on pine because it seals any bleeding pretty well. It stinks like mad but dries quickly and the fumes air out quickly as well. You could also go with an acrylic poly.

Shellac is also "kid safe" once it has dried. They can chew on it all they want without any ill effects.

Indeed. My girlfriend is quite fond of a Japanese candy called Ichi Babies, which just so happens to contain Shellac as a main ingredient.

Probably not the MAIN ingredient. Just a coating on the outside to keep them from sticking together or melting in your hand.

Not THE main ingredient, but pretty high on the list. And yes you can actually taste the shellac in them. Go figure.

They are making some Soy based sealers that are virtually no odor and completely safe, as they are considered Green products. I haven't started carrying any of them so I can't give you exact recommendations or performance history on them.

Because he'll never be able to put anything else over it again other than wax.
