Parking Lots

I have a bid coming up for striping a parking lot. It's been a while since I've bid such a job. Any information on production rates? What prep is usually required? What economies of scale can be expected/ gained?

I am not interested in prices. I can figure that out. I want to know how long to expect a stripe to take and what prep will generally be required.

Re: Parking Lots

it would be wise to check into the legal requirements for details like handicap requirements, actual number of spaces allowed

We plan to spray with a rented machine.

Re: Parking Lots

Hmmm...well I mostly assisted
Honestly it's not as easy to handle those machines as one might think
And my bro-in-law (the seal-coater) didn't want me making a mistake (and I'm the painter lol)
But it's tough to erase those...but at least he had sealcoat to do so

It was a while ago, so I'm not sure I can quote production rates with accuracy
But the prep was to clean the heck out of the lot, hand pushed "Lil Wonder" blowers, brooms, rakes...had to be pretty clean
Burned out the oil spots that might bleed through...dunno if that's still legal...lol

The laws/regs are pretty mind boggling also
That handicap icon must be a precise style and size, and placed at precise distances, and have precise colors dictated by the state
They are updated periodically...last years icons may not be legal

The parking spaces also must be precise as per the size/type of building
You are libel if they are too close or not arranged right and people bend fenders...and it doesn't matter if you are just going "over old lines", it has to be done to code
If the old lines are out, you've got to stripe new ones

That's all I can offer off-hand
