Panel Painting
I told my wife I would paint the den. 1957 home with v joint oak paneling that has been varnished. I will be brushing it on.
I thought light sand, clean with tsp, 1 coat Sherwin Williams primer (water based) 2 coats Sherwin Williams enamel (pro classic) straight from can. All brushed. 4" brush. Would that be best?

Re: Panel Painting
Light sand with 120, wipe down with Krud Kutter Gloss Off (works far better than Paso), oil based primer, finish with oil based satin Pro Classic applied with sprayer.
A 4" brush will work with water based primer and top coat also though. I recommend a satin top coat.

Re: Panel Painting
I have a good quality HVLP but only use it for cabinet repair.
I painted for a pro painter for 2 years, old school, I still keep my brushes in shape because I have a need to do touch up after installs. I have no spray equipment, and would not be good with an airless. Satin, water base after oil primer. Thanks for the feedback. Paul

Re: Panel Painting
Be sure to scuff sand the primer coat for better adhesion of the latex top coat.

Re: Panel Painting
Yeah, I will.
I am off work till January so this little paint job will keep me out of mischief. Although this morning my wife says, I hate the wallpaper in the main bath. Its been there since 1957, 3 coats. I told her I would touch up the plaster and prime and paint, but no way am I doing wallpaper removal. We'll see where that goes

Re: Panel Painting
I don't know how deep the V groove is but I would roll vs. brush any day IMO. use the brush to get the paint/primer into the groove then hit it with a miniroller to knock the brush marks down. Good luck man, any chance you could get some pics up?
