Painting Wood Floors

About a year ago I noticed that SW was carrying a line of floor paint for wood floors. I then noticed that both Lowe's and HD was carrying their version of porch and floor paint, too. I had a rehab last winter and tore up three layers of floor covering from the past 60 years... beneath was the original tongue/groove floor. Striped the glue off, sanded it lightly with a palm sander and applied a stain-blocker. I used some of the porch and floor paint and after one year that stuff looks great and cleans up well. Even after all the walking traffic and furniture, it held up as well as carpet.

Years ago, before wall to wall carpet, people painted the floors along the walls about two feet deep, all the way around the room. Then tacked an are rug in the center. Both a carpet installer and an interior decorator said this coming back into fashion again... people want to coordinate the paint color to the rug color and paper the walls or whatever.

Are the paint contractors here seeing this fade? Or maybe its still a regional thing? What paint/brands are you using?

I have two rehabs waiting and I might attempt this again. If the colors are coordinated properly, it could be a real attention getter.

steve

I haven't seen it much up here, might be regional although I do know exactly what your talking about...I use SW's Floor enamel all the time-probably the one your talking about...not sure about what HD and Lowes has...and that doesn't bother me one bit

Hmmm... must be the same thing, wrong terminology. What surfaces are you using this product on? Wood floors?

I used the dreaded *B* Porch & Floor paint on a rental. The stuff gets super hard in four days or so. I was happy with the results, but its a behr (he, he) to apply.

Re: Painting Wood Floors

Hey Steve,

Have you gone to Pike's Paint yet? I know SW is new in town but since My father and I (seperate times) walked in there first time we both had bad experiences and service, so i dont do biz w/ them.

Any way, I use Coronado's Floor and Patio paint((52-series)), its 100% acrylic and latex. I havnt used it on interior but im sure it would do just fine,
It is rated Int/Ext, wood, masonary, and metal so you could try it.

Ive used it on wood porches(my main paint) and concrete slab porches(check my website for the pics) Havnt had any probs yet to date and continue to use it.

By the way, would you like to talk or meet sometime?

Re: Painting Wood Floors

Nope, haven't gotten that way yet. The local SW dealer has kept me well supplied... except his prices keep going up and up. Even at my price break, its still a little excessive. If I could find BM dealer nearby or another reputable brand, I'd try it.

Ever buy that spray rig? I'm looking to add the Titan L-70 Roll kit soon. Got some Christmas money to spend.

Sure, after the Holidays are over, I'd be more than happy to meet. I'll PM you sometime.
