Painting Trim

Has anyone come up with a price/lf for painting basic colonial baseboard trim? I usually do one price for primer + 2 coats (materials and labor together). I suppose with trim, it's often primed, so I suppose I need to figure a price for with and without primer.

Thoughts?

Kevin

I prime over that preprimed trim, just don't trust it.

Re: Painting Trim

I agree
Unless I can be assured it's good stuff, I bid for primer regardless

That cheap crap is like chalk dust and blows right off the trim on the ride over to the job if it's on a rack on top and not inside a van

Re: Painting Trim

Don't bother coming up with a seperate price. Always bid a primer coat - gives you the option of whether you want to do it or not. And I have found - that lots of builder are going over to factory primed trim - sometimes out of the blue you walk in a job you bid on specs - and find the whole place has non-primed trim. So I don't care anymore - I always work it into the price - and pocket the extra cash on the rare occasion I feel it doesn't need it. Funny - 1 coat of my primer and 2 topcoats on bare wood covers just as well as repriming and two topcoats on factory prime. But 2 topcoats, unless it's oil, on factory prime - never looks quite right.
