Painting Pre-formed Metal Corners...

We had a company lined up to supply us with pre-finished cement fiber board. The finish is to be a wood-tone Superdeck product basically consisting of two different colors so that the raised grain is highlighted.

The customer has inquired about using a stamped aluminum corner as opposed to the typical horizontal siding/vertical trim interface. The corners we have as samples have a slight raised pattern not really grain like, but raised none-the-less. The pre-finishing company has said they can not finsh the corners. Apparently they do not believe thier process will be warrantiable on the metal corners.

I am getting conflicting views on what and will not stand the test of time weather. Everything from match the colors with a latex base, to only use an automotive paint with a flex agent.

Fortunately, the customer will pay to be different. Unfortunately, I see this scenario being risky and possibly a nightmare if it becomes a be-back.

Any insight on a direction to start in for some experimenting?

TIA

Re: Painting Pre-formed Metal Corners...

I would use Benjamin Moore's M-04 Acrylic Metal Primer and top coat it with Benjamin Moore's Moore Gaurd 100% Acrylic Paint... That would be a good system for durability & longevity...
