Unhappy painting over enamel stripes

I am a real greeney, but need some help painting over some serious stripes. After sanding, painting, and then serious sanding over the edges again, I can still see the edges like crazy! Should I just keep painting layers and just build up the areas around the edges-sanding the edges after each layer? I thought of a skim coat, but there has got to be a better way.

Skim Coat is the easiest way to get rid of the lines. How much time and material do you want to spend by painting and sanding over and over again?

try a palm sander to knock down the edge of the stripe, sand until it feels smooth. then go back after your first coat of finish and skim what you can still see.
