Painting Over Alluminum Window Casings

wondering if you use a special paint to paint over aluminum or if you would just paint with regular exterior semi-gloss?

Prime it with an acrylic primer like Zinsser 1-2-3 or use a DTM paint designed for adhesion to surfaces like aluminum. Don't use oil on it no matter what. Aluminum and oil don't get along well.

100% acrylic latex with emulsa bond from flood added to the first coat, second coat 100% acrylic latex.

Unless it's chalking quite a bit, Emulsa-bond is pointless. Adding an oil emulsion to the equation without a reason does more harm than good. If it is chalking I'd use Zinsser PeelStop before I'd use EB.

Around here, remove all chalkiness with a stainless steel brush. Prime with a Zinc Chromate primer and apply the topcoat of your choice. Include a disclaimer/guarantee in your quote, not over a year if you're a rookie. 3 yrs. for a pro.

If you're going epoxies, follow ALL of the manufactures' directions.

Painting aluminum WILL ruin your day. Not now but later. Just trust me!

We paint aluminum all the time... Its already painted from the factory, your just applying another coat. Make sure its clean! All chalk needs to be washed off. Prime bare aluminum & paint with 100% acrylic. Talk to your sales rep. if you have any questions.

Emulsa bond is a dual purpose product it does emulsify chalk it also serves to increase bond over harder or glossier surfaces.
