painting new steel doors
I am so used to spraying doors on new construction I had forgotten what a pain in the ass these doors are when not sprayed. I have tried to roll them out but the finish ends up feeling like sandpaper. I try rolling and tipping off with a brush but not happy with that either. what procedures do you all use. Roller? What kind? Foam? mohair? I tend to get air bubbles with foam. Any advice?

I use a brush.
If it's a panel door, I do the panels first then the rails and stiles.
Paint fast, really fast, keep a wet edge.
My son just doesn't get the "fast" part. He can't paint a metal door with a brush. Always looks like crap. I do them all myself now.
Spraying a metal door isn't much better. They tend to get runs.

I haven't tried the door stackers, but I've seen information on them.
Is it hard to get both sides done quickly, or should you wait for each side to dry prior to flipping?
I usually roll on the paint, and then brush it out. Not like glass ... but pretty good.

door stackers are awesome. I normally paint one side of all of them. Just paint one, stack on top of the next. Wait a little bit to let the paint start setting, then do the other side. This is one of the best tools i own. I have flipped them immediately when I have been in a hurry. didn't notice any sags. I started with a set of five to see if I liked them. After first use I order 10 more.

It's hardly worth the time to set up/clean up the sprayer if you're only doing one or two doors.

my problem is that on new construction I can spray in the house before wall are done. Or in basement. On repaints, there is nowhere to spray. Outside would get bugs and dirt in the paint. Almost have to roll or brush.

I've seen alot of doors that are rolled that don't feel near as rough as the ones I've done rolling. What type of rollers do you think they are using.
