Painting Limestone Rails & Spindles

I have an exterior paint job coming up that includes painting limestone rails & spindles

Rails were previously painted, but i guess they are experiencing what you call chaulking. You rub your hands on them, and they leave white dust on your hand. Obviously, poorly prep.

I am thinking about Power washing/scrape & wire brushing them.

Apply an appropriate primer and topcoat.

What procedures/products would you pros recommend for limestone?

I am thinking Loxon Conditioner with Conflex or Sherlastic Top coat. Since i'll be using either or on walls. Or should I stay with the recommended Loxon topcoat or will I be fine without?

Thanks

Rich

If you can get it cleaned up good enough I would go with a silicate mineral paint. As in Kiem or Virginia Lime sells one and a few others. Will last 100s of years!

Gosh, ... think it was independent contract cleaners run by Tpetersen had a redirect to an italian guy that was excellent and most likey can answer your question abt stone.

..Didn't want you to think yer post was ignored.. Ha!

I don't know that you will be able to get anything to adhere to efflouressence personified! After cleaning well you may be able to get something encased upon it for a number of years, but don't bet yer house on the warranty.
