Question Painting ceiling tiles

Hello everyone,

I have this job in a store to paint some ceiling tiles, there 24 X 24 and are white well off white now, they want them cleaned up with a coat of paint. Now the question is should i use oil or latex for these, trying to get away with one coat just need to make them look "whiter" and i cant spray in there.
oh yeah and there are no stains to speak of...

any ideas?

thanks

Joe

I recently completed Benjamin Moore's acoustical (drop) ceiling course.
They suggest using paint made for ceiling tiles.... it is a bit more expensive but will not make the tiles stick after. It is latex. But I have also sprayed basic latex ceiling white on a drop ceiling before with success.

Just last year after a disagreement on the proposal, my partner bet me his end of the job that we didn't need to prime. I came out okay on that job

have they been painted before, or are they just like they came out of the box?
Every thing comes out better if you prime it first. I would imagine you could get decent coverage with out a primer, you would just want to keep in mind that they are pretty porus.
Shame you can't spray them.

If they have been painted before it shouldn't be much of a problem.

I have decided that I will take one of there tiles down and test it and see how it goes since I have to get it done in two nights, and only have time for one coat so see how it goes. Only quoted one coat so if they want another they will have to pay....

Thanks ,

Joe
