Painting Books

I know this may be a bad place to ask this but hear goes. Are there any good painting books out there that I could get, reason being there are times that I have painting questions but I may not be around a computer or just don't want to wait for somebody to respond.

Also not the Painting Association books, I'm not sure I can afford those right now. Just one that answers a lot of basic questions like, cleaning brushes, rollers etc. and shows some pictures.
Thanks

Re: Painting Books

I'm personally not familiar with any painting books but when I'm shopping for books in general, I read the reviews at Amazon or Barnes&Noble. Hope this helps.

Re: Painting Books

2 books have really helped me with estimating, paint knowledge, setting up your business, etc.......Paint Contractor's Manual by Dave Matis and J. Toole, and the Painter's Handbook by William McElroy. Excellent books.

Re: Painting Books

You should own a copy of the MPI manual, it is quite informative as well as a great marketing tool. You can also get a great set of painting manuals in cd format on E-Bay. Join the PDCA and get deep discounts on your manuals as well.

Re: Painting Books

I'm always cutting and pasting information off the web, and any simple pictures as well, I have all of this info ready to print off if I need it which is mostly for clients. Don't forget your local library.

Re: Painting Books

I'll go with Zeebo and Pro -- those are the two books I bought and read when I started by biz. They're a little outdated but the info is invaluable. Also--This Old House magazine recently did a story on the process of painting the interior of a home. I am not sure if it was online, or in the rag itself. But it covered all the basics from painting to cleaning your brushes, etc. Like the others said, there is so much available online, you can probably get all that you need.
