Re: Painters...what's Your Style

so, I'm somewhere in the middle most of the time--I step it up a notch when I really need to ...I'm young and you'd think I might cut corners, but I am real consistant and pride myself on quality....

basically, if I'm hittin' the wood trim, getting paint on the glass, or taggin' the ceiling--I either have the flu or need to slow it down a bit

I voted slow n steady. I work smart, not hard.
There are no paint emergencies, and I'm in really no hurry.
My prices are structured for this style. Maybe I'm just an artist/primadonna?

Slow and steady-perfect work, in my time.
When I work for a company, I usually do a speedy but quality job.
When I do my own jobs, I'll take the extra time do the best I possibly can for them. It's my name on their house. The amount of extra work & refferals I get from some customers shows me it's well worth the extra time to do a quality job.

slow and steady wins the race. Obtaining speed is the result of better efficiency and organization.

Re: Painters...what's Your Style

I really am glad to see the 'slow and steady'. Amongst my family I am known being good but slow in several different things . I have been told by my wife I should open a small engine shop, and that I know enough to get into several different self employed ventures. I tell her to run a business like that, you need to be a lot quicker than I am, not to mention the need to actually know more on that subject. Have also been told by others "as much/many things you know...". As we all know it, a good understanding of the business aspect is as important, if not more so, than actually having a good product, knowing how to do something, etc,.
Part of the reason I am thinking of the painting business is so I can take my time and make the customer happy. If it is not right, I know it is not right. I think for most people that have ever tried business, it gets in their blood so to speak, and they are always searching for the rightsomething/fit. I have been reading these forums trying to catch up on the business part of whatever I may end up doing so I can come up with some kind of system and not ruch into anything in a chaotic manner with nothing more than enthusiasm and some laymen know how. I am still searching. So,thumbs up for slow and steady.

I voted fast as heck.. but really, it's compared to others I work with.. I just can't help myself.... I have two speeds, on and off. I wouldn't classify myself as the fastest on the planet though....

Actually, I have not done that many jobs for the puplic, usually on family owned property such as in rental properties. I never had to be concerned with speed. I have to say working steady on the project at hand has help me speed up. By steady I mean fewer cigs, brekas, whatever. But that is a good thing.

It completely depends on the work. Custom work is slower and more perfectionistic, production is fast as I can go.
