Paint vs Solid Color Stains

My client wants me to paint a new solid mahogany door. I know, who would want to paint a mahogany door. I thought this may be a good situation for the solid color stains. My SW rep suggested to ditch the stain and use an oil based primer with a water based top coat. What are your opinions.

I would listen to your rep.

That being said I just tried solid color stain for the first time last week. That stuff was awesome!!! Covered great, brushed in nicely. It also went a long long way (I think one gallon covered like five hundred feet easy). I was using it as a prime coat on a siding burn off.

One coat stain, two top coats latex.
