Re: Paint Spill - What To Do

A friend of mine slid a refrigerator out 3 feet to paint behind it. It scratched the crap out of the customers floor new wood floor.
He told the customer immediately. Customer said it wasn't a bid deal, don't worry about it. Friend came back the next day with a hardwood flooring guy to do the repair anyhow.
Customer was so impressed with his (the painters) professionalism that he has been back to the house for several other projects and has been since working for many of the customers family and friends.

A little integrity, and eating a $250 floor repair bill has led to a huge increase in his customer base and multiple thousands of dollars in additional work.

Re: Paint Spill - What To Do

I had a job where I broke the edge off a bath room sink while I was repairing the ceiling, I stopped what I was doing called my insurance agent told him what I did, he said we can cover it no problem or he told me I could just get another sink, so that's what I did($75.00), went plumbing supply house picked up a sink that was close in color and style came back installed it, then when the home owner came home I told her what I did and she told me I didn't have to do all that, the thing is you need to do the RIGHT thing, cause like they say "What comes around goes around" and at some point it will cost you ten fold. Good luck

Re: Paint Spill - What To Do

This same painter got me once...now that I think about it.
I had him paint a good size walk-in closet. He decided he would take the cabinet doors home and do them.
Anyway, he gets all done and a few days later the veneer on the doors starts seperating and then peeling off.
I thought I got a bad piece of plywood so I go back to the supplier and question him. I show him the delamination and says he has never seen anything like it. He had no other complaints but was generous enough to replace the plywood. I recut all the doors and painted them myself.
It was some time later that I talked to this guy's helper. This is when he told me what had happened. They had painted the doors outside and left them to dry. It had rained that day and everything got wet. They dried the doors off and everything looked good for a time. I guess the water had soaked into the layers and loosened the glue.
It does leave a bad taste when I think of ever using this guy for anything. He is talented, but I'm not sure about his integrity.
There always seems to be a lesson to learn.
