Paint Process For An Existing Home
I just bought a Graco 495 and want to figure out the most organized, simple process in painting the interior of an existing home with as little trail and error as possible.
For example, let's say the house is 1,400sf, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, with carpet and vinyl flooring. The flooring will not be removed. The house has baseboard trim but no crown. The ceilings do NOT have popcorn and will be painted white. The walls will be beige. How do you cover the flooring and with what material? How do you cover the walls or ceiling? And what order do you paint each part of the home? I know these are entry level questions, but you guys have all of the experience which can help us save time. I look forward to your comments. |

I'm not a painter (even though I've painted more houses than I care to count) but I'd cover the floors with tarps, paint the ceilings first, paint the trim/doors second and the walls last.

Ditto with the floors Ceiling - walls using a painters shield - trim with a brush doors sprayed outside Better yet - hire it out unless I can spray everything at once the same color - that's my system |

Re: Paint Process For An Existing Home
There are several ways to paint it, all one color/sheen or different for trim/walls/ceiling?
Is the house empty? As far as carpet, run a 2" piece of tape along carpet at base, use a putty knife to push it down (between base and carpet). Then run a 12" paper, use a masker, along tape. You can then lay plastic if you want, tuck it under paper and tape to carpet. Put drops down over that. Now you will not "pull" on masked edge when you walk on drops. You might want to go to painttalk.com and read up! http://www.painttalk.com/f22/new-con...sequence-1165/
