Hello again,
I have a forever screen door, the paint is coming off and i would like to paint it, what would you guys use for painting this door. The door is vinyl and in some spots it's down to primer.
Thanks,

It's a vinyl-clad storm door manufactured by Emco, bought out by Andersen, and sold by Home Depot . . .

If it's vinyl, why paint it? Perhaps you mean that plastic coated door/window that can be painted if you want? Correct way to do those is with gelcoat. Hope thats what you are talking about.

Well then if that is the case, i just wasted my time sanding my concrete floor in the basement. At least now that forever is NOT forever i won't have to paint the basement, right?

That's possible that it's a gelcoat? I'm gonna have to call the manufacturer to find out if Forever is forever on the finish.

Gelcoat is a soild body stain used on plastic covered doors to make them look stained. Properly applied it will last longer than the door Not sure if the door you are talking about is the right product however.. vinyl coatings range larger than they used to. I'll take a look at hd if you have a model number for ya.

Here are the painting instructions from the website, - - should work for any 'forever' doors except the 'self-storing' (traditional model) (like mine )
http://www.allseasonsdoors.com/faq/i...d=142&cat_id=5
Apparently the traditional and crossbuck self-storing models (after 2002) are polypropylene, and can't be painted.

Ahh yes, those are pre-primed from the factory and can be coated with any decent gloss latex paint.
Tom, the gelcoat is yours.

Just take your TIME with gelcoats, it's a real pain to make it look good... you gotta go over it once... thats it, back brush and it will pull and look stupid.

I talked to the manufacturer the other day and they said they were going to send me the painting instructions, same as there web site, no big deal. I also have a problem with the screen and window that are inside the door, they are both hard going up and down, they are sending the new sliders FREE of charge. So apparently FOREVER means forever free parts, and my door was purchased in 1987. So that's not too bad of a deal, all i have to do is take it apart and redo the sliders, then repaint it at the same time.
