Question

Outside Air Temperature

Painting contractor located in the midwest and temperatures are mid 30's this week. We have two houses to finish on the exterior and I was looking for input if anyone has used ICI Dulux exterior paint. Can be applied down to 32 degrees but have never used the product. Would also be willing to switch to a Sherwin-Williams brand as long as product durability is not compromised. Trim of both homes is cedar and we are using a latex solid color stain; body of house is dryvit (stucco) in a venetian plaster type application. We are almost completed with the trim and the dryvit is what we need to start and complete before the temperature really drops. Thanks for the input.

Re: Outside Air Temperature

How cold has it been getting at night? I think the 32 degree line is for surface temp not air temp. You're into it now and you have to finish, so just do it and hope for the best.
I use an temp meter for my own piece of mind (and the clients are really impressed). You can get a basic infra red meter from Gardner for under $40.

Re: Outside Air Temperature

Make sure you anticipate what the temp is going to do after you paint. If it's 35 degrees at 5pm, you are going to have a problem, since the temp will surely drop at night. The best thing to do in cold weather is to start in the morning since the temp usually increases throughout the day.
As far as using ICI Dulux, don't do it. It sucks. Been there done that. Get yourself some Sherwin-Williams exterior super paint, rated to go on at 35 degrees.
