****omg!!!!!!!!****

Some prices being given out in my area in the local news paper ad.
Adam, what do you think about it?

SPRING SPECIAL” 1 Rm, ceiling, walls & trim $75.00

Average Room $75 Int. Ext. $400 Avg House Wall Paper - $12 A Single Roll

Is these prices crazy. If anyone wants to know if they should advertise in their local paper. Remember these are the prices they are dealing with.

Please send some commenst on this price list.

It's probably one of those things that get them in the door then the add-ons begin. I do not see how a ligitimate company could make any money like that.
You could have them come to your house and see what their pitch is. See how the average home gets painted for 400 bucks. Pick the great room in your home and see if 75 bucks will get it done.

Are you sure that there's no 'small print'? If not, he'll be gone soon. He can't even cover his advertising at that price.

That's a little out there!

$75 might not even cover material cost for a job like that!

I wouldn't ever call this person over to my house! It's too bad that the face our industry is degraded by this kind of nonsense!

And newspaper advertising can get expensive. He also has to think about gas, WC, INS, Labor. I guess materials have to be extra. I bet it is going to be one color, flat one coat, no prer, spraying only, but thats still too low for the hassle. This is the kind of low ball pipe drams going on here in Jax. When I come to do a estimate on house repaints I always say atleast it is primed and laugh. I tell the homeowners it is not a good thing when you can see the studs through the paint.
The homeowners need to ban these type of service guys from the industry.

My wife is from Reading Pa and already complains about the cheap wages, but that really caught her eye and she after that this then she . I said baby we are in the south. We are the nation of cheap labor.

I also said it is my opinion that the Civil War was not about the North being compassionate and wanting to free slaves, but rather they wanted the cheaper labor to work in their factories. Freeing the slaves was a good thing, but putting them into a wage that could not support them was a new type of slavery.

Exactly..it's like when you hear similar things in ads

Prices starting at $75!!!
"starting" translates to "well, that's our ideal price which never actually applies because we'll hit you with extra charges for almost anything, since we will determine what "average" is and most likely no one will fit the mold"

If they aren't adding extra charges, they must be charging about $3.25/hr. and using walmart paint...

Think about this for a few moments - have you ever been persuaded to buy a car based on a commercial add? I haven't - they have absolutely no impact on me, but they must work - otherwise why would manufacturers spend mega money to air them? Same thing about $75 paint jobs - for a good size room I expect to pay 10 times that money.
But some people are out there thinking 'Gee - whiz, what a good price - I am going to have my room painted for only $75!' How about put an ad that says - I will paint your house for free! If I was thief - that's what I would do - so I could get into somebody's home - and find out everything about it. And there would be people stupid enough to think that's a good deal - until they come back from vacation to find their home is emptied! LOL!

Ya, great Idea... call him and have him estimate a few rooms in your house
Ten you will see for yourself.

If the consumer is that dumb, then they deserve to get that quality job.

The worst thing about that type of advertising (whether its bait and switch or just a lowballing hack) is that every potential customer reading that ad just downgraded what they will be willing to pay for a paint job in the future.

And also they are then willing to believe that all painters are dirtballs then. Ads like that put a bad on on an industry as a whole. I hate buying a car/truck cause I think all car salesman are scum. But in reality there may be a few out there that are worth dealing with.

They have some guys doing that low stuff here in town. They have signs up for 125.00 a room I think.

That don't cover materials, and the gas....

Yup....typical for this area. Remember our talk about the guy with the signs on the side of the road? There are way too many cheap guys in this area. Just got undercut on an acid stain. Decided Smith's Color Floor would be the best option to keep prices down without doing an overlay. Some turd beats my price by OVER $1000 WITH an overlay and kemiko stain. Smacktard.
