Old House Ext. Painting
I have an old house with many bad paint jobs, all of the existing paint is rippled over old paint. is there some wind of skim coating that could be used.
thanks |

Re: Old House Ext. Painting
I wouldn't trust skimming over a lot of bad paint. I would look into removing it, whether by chemical (stripper) or mechanical (paint shaver).

I second the removal suggestion
Anything else is not a good idea

Re: Old House Ext. Painting
I agree with the removal also...
a home can only take so many coats of paint before you will HAVE to remove it... I mentioned in another thread about the paint stripper Ready Strip... go to www.readystrip.com to look up some info on it... use the ready strip pro version or higher... it does spray well with the proper sprayer and tip... I have used it to remove multiple layers of paint on a few homes... I will spray the home with it in one day... allow to set over night... and scrape of with ease the next day... I just did a salt box style house and removed the paint off in 2 days... the ready strip is bio freindly too... spray it on generously (theres no over spray either) allow to set over night scrape off next day power (rinse) to remove residue and small chunks of paint left over lightly sand with 80 grit you will have a really nice long lasting finish.... |

Re: Old House Ext. Painting
its not cheap..
I get it from my supplier for $42.00... and it only cover about 70 sq feet per gal... apply it 3 times as thick as you would spraying paint. Its worth it... its extremely time saving (less labor) I am assuming you are talking about an HVLP sprayer??? Use an airless sprayer to apply it... You will need at least 1000psi airless.... and use a .019 tip... your supplier should carry it... if not try home depot or something.... |
