Ok Glazing Thread
I've done glazing several different ways. I've settled on the caulking gun tubes of glaze. There's a little learning curve but once you get it comes out nice!
What's your style/tips? |

Re: Ok Glazing Thread
This thread has made me realize that I definitely need to brush up on my glazing skills.

Re: Ok Glazing Thread
I've always used the glazing out of a tube but don't seem to get the real precise angles. I actually use a cut pot full of water and just finger it into place after shooting it in there with a caulk gun. I don't use a five way or putty knife to work it into place, instead, I use my index finger.
I'm not the best glazer, I'll admit that and should probably take some lessons from others here. Although the handful of glazing jobs I've done have come out decent and I've always been paid. Mr. Mike's method is hard for me to learn, I've tried it but always get pissed off. |

Re: Ok Glazing Thread
The glaze in a tube doesn't stick as well as the tub full IMO.
I use the tub of it and a putty knife. It's slower but is a better end result. It's firmer and easier to get perfect. Cole |

I still like the old way of working the putty in your hands till pliable and then working it into the window sash with your thumb, then holding your putty knife virtually parallel to the sash, drag it down or across (sometimes depending on the pliability of the putty you wet the putty knife with your spit I kid not

Re: Ok Glazing Thread
Nobody uses an actual glazing tool? I usually dip the tool in oil and it pulls pretty well.

Yes, one other thing I forgot to mention. |

Re: Ok Glazing Thread
I use the caulking gun tube to bed the glass, put in your glazing points, then the regular oil base glazing putty for the outside. As noted, keep dipping the glazing knife in something slick (I use mineral spirits) and it comes out nice.
